Laiphangba, also spelled Laiphangpa, was a king of the Khuman dynasty, a significant ruling house in Ancient Kangleipak (now Manipur). He ruled from 570 CE to 620 CE.[1][2]
He was the son and successor of Khomba Ningthouba. He lived during the later reign of Ura Konthouba, a Meitei king of the Ningthouja dynasty, who ruled from 567 CE to 657 CE.[3][4]
Reign
Laiphangba built Mayang Imphal as the second capital of the Khuman kingdom, in 575 CE, in addition to the prevailing seat of power at Thoubal.[1][2] This was the start of a dual-capital system based on the rising political and administrative significance of both.[2]
During this time, the Khuman kingdom also extended its reach west and began to solidify its geopolitical power base.[1][2][3][4]
Legacy
His son, Punshi Yumoiba, succeeded him and further strengthened Mayang Imphal's position as a royal capital.[1][2][3][4]
