Newpool is a former coal mining village[1] and suburb of Biddulph in the Staffordshire Moorlands district of the county of Staffordshire, England.[2] The village forms a built-up area with neighbouring villages Brown Lees and Knypersley.[3]
History
Originally, the village was a scattered bunch of farmsteads. However it was then occupied by a colliery which was named "Newpool Colliery".[4] With a few small houses for the workers of the colliery. The arrival of the Biddulph Valley line connected the village to neighbouring Congleton and Stoke-on-Trent.
After the closure of the colliery in the 20th century, the site was redeveloped for housing.[5] The village now forms a residential area for the town of Biddulph.
Amenities
The village has a church, called the "Life Stream Church".[6] This is located on Newpool Road and close to the village centre of Knypersley.[7]
Also nearby is the St John the Evangelist's Church in neighbouring Knypersley. As well as the Knypersley First School and an Aldi superstore.
