Sujinda Dangvan (Thai: สุจินดา ดั่งวัน; born 20 October 1991), or simply known as Billy (Thai: บิลลี่), is a Thai-American former professional footballer who played as a midfielder in Thai League 1. Born in the United States, he represented both Thailand and the United States at various youth national team levels.
Early life
Sujinda Dangvan was born in San Diego, California, to a Thai-Vietnamese father and mother. He spent his early years living between Thailand and the United States, fostering a multicultural upbringing that deeply influenced his personal identity and footballing style. By the age of 13, he had experienced football cultures on both continents, shaping his versatile and creative playing philosophy.
Youth career
Dangvan began playing soccer at a young age in Thailand, inspired by the Brazilian flair and Spanish technical style that would later define his approach on the field. He was a part of the Thai FA Youth Academy and represented Thailand in youth futsal before transitioning to full-field football. In 2001, he was selected for the Thailand U13 national team and invited to train with FC Barcelona's first team and staff during their Asia pre-season tour. That same year, he was named among the top 30 youth players in Thailand and invited to the prestigious Manchester United camp hosted by Pepsi.
After relocating to the United States, he joined the Eastside Timbers, where he helped the U18 team win the U.S. National Championship and achieve the No. 1 ranking nationally in their age group. He also represented Oregon ODP and the US Region IV ODP program, while remaining in the Thailand U18–U20 national team pool.
College career
From 2009 to 2012, Dangvan played NCAA Division II soccer at Western Washington University. Known for his technical ability, field vision, and leadership, he was a four-year starter and key contributor in midfield. He finished his collegiate career ranked 14th in all-time assists (11) and tied for 16th in points (33) at the school. In his senior year, he earned First-Team All-Conference honors in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, tallying 6 goals and 3 assists in 18 starts.
Throughout his time at Western Washington, Dangvan was consistently involved in attacking buildup play and earned a reputation as a disciplined and intelligent playmaker. Off the field, he completed his undergraduate degree with a major in Business Management, balancing academics with his athletic commitments.
Professional career
Dangvan began his professional career in Thailand with BEC Tero Sasana F.C. in 2012. In 2013, he was loaned to BCC Tero, where he made 14 appearances and scored 2 goals. From 2014 to 2016, he played for Krabi F.C., and was later loaned to Trang F.C. where he led the team with 6 goals in 27 appearances and was instrumental in a close promotion campaign.
His performances earned him call-ups to both the Thailand U23 and senior national team training camps. Unfortunately, injuries prevented him from securing a long-term spot during that time. In 2017, he signed with Ubon UMT United in Thai League 1, making 6 appearances and scoring once. The following year, he joined Police Tero F.C. where he concluded his professional career.
Throughout his time in Thai professional football, Dangvan was recognized for his high football IQ, technical fundamentals, creative playmaking, and leadership on and off the pitch. After recurring injuries, he chose to step away from competition to focus on recovery and mentoring the next generation of footballers through coaching and development programs.
